Require Learner Participation
Introduction of lesson and project
The teacher will show the video below, explain the lesson, do a class discussion about the lesson and video and then explain project details.
25 minutes
In-Group Discussion
5 minutes
Students will get into groups of 3-4. They will share with each other about different cereals they have eaten or have ate in the past for breakfast. After sharing, they will discuss and narrow down to their top 2 cereals to compare and contrast, research about, and inform for the project.

Students will be graded on two rubrics:
Charts and media presentation are graded separately but the overall total will be the final grade
Chart is 40% of the grade while the presentation is 60% percent

Group Research
35 minutes - outside of class
After picking their two cereals, groups are to use their laptops to research about their cereals, specifically the nutritional facts such as the salt, fat and sugar content. This will take up the rest of the class so that their research will be concise and intensive. They are to use Google Docs as a tool to compile their research into a group document so that everyone in the group can view and contribute into the document. They are also encouraged to research and work outside of class until the next meeting.
- Next Class Meeting -
Creating a chart/grap
20-30 minutes
Groups should have their research completed and prepared. Next, they are to go onto the Ease.ly.com website to create a creative and colorful info-graph that will compare and contrast their cereal’s nutritional facts. This chart will be included into their media presentation which will also help guide them.

Presentation preparations
30 minutes + 1 class & the weekend
Students will be given a class period and the weekend to prepare for their overall presentation. They are encouraged to also work outside of class to help lessen the burden until the due date. The presentation has no time limit, as long as their information is clear and straight to the point and the presentation is neat. The presentation should have the chart as the first slide and the rest of the slides are analyzing that chart with research and other information that pertains to the topic . There will be a rubric for both the chart and presentation (sample rubrics will be given so students know what is expected).
- New week & Presentation day -
Media Presentation
40 minutes
A projector will be prepared and ready for their media presentation. The teacher will be watching while grading using a rubric, for both the chart and presentation. Presentations will take up most of class time. There is no minimum time limit but the maximum is 7 minutes.
Closing
20 minutes
After presentations, there will be a class discussion about the presentations and the information that they have learned and gained. Students will also write a short reflection, written on a piece of paper, about the group project and what they have learned and gained from this project and will be turned in when class ends.
