Common Core Standards for Grade 12 - Language Arts and Reading

 

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.2
Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.2.A
Introduce a topic; organize complex ideas, concepts, and information so that each new element builds on that which precedes it to create a unified whole; include formatting (e.g., headings), graphics (e.g., figures, tables), and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.8
Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, using advanced searches effectively; assess the strengths and limitations of each source in terms of the task, purpose, and audience; integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of ideas, avoiding plagiarism and overreliance on any one source and following a standard format for citation.

Work with peers to promote civil, democratic discussions and decision-making, set clear goals and deadlines, and establish individual roles as needed.

Present information, findings, and supporting evidence, conveying a clear and distinct perspective, such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning, alternative or opposing perspectives are addressed, and the organization, development, substance, and style are appropriate to purpose, audience, and a range of formal and informal tasks.

Make strategic use of digital media (e.g., textual, graphical, audio, visual, and interactive elements) in presentations to enhance understanding of findings, reasoning, and evidence and to add interest.

Objective 1: 

Students will test their researching skills by looking up the nutritional facts of cereals using different types of databases. 

Objective 2: 

Students will gather their information together and compare and contrast the fat, sugar and sodium content of different types of cereals by analyzing their research findings of the nutritional facts. 

Objective 3: 

Students will compile their findings of nutritional facts into charts and graphs to differentiate which cereals are healthy or unhealthy. 

Objective 4: 

Students will use an electronic source of their choice to inform on the cereals nutritional facts and differentiate which ones are healthy and unhealthy to the rest of their peers. 

Objective 5: 

The goal is for students to learn what cereals should be avoided by to have a healthy and balanced breakfast by analyzing and reporting the nutritional facts and their research findings to their peers using technology.
