Utilize Media, Materials, and Methods
Prepare Materials:
Laptops from the library (or students are free to use their personal laptops) will have access to the internet and search databases. The laptop will be used for researching and to create a chart or graph for their project. A projector will also be provided from the library for group presentations at the end of the project. Students will also be handed sample chart and presentation rubrics so they know what is expected from them.
Introduce the lesson:
The lesson will begin with a video projected on the screen about the best and worst healthy choices for breakfast. This video will introduce the topic and project to the students. The teacher will also explain the project’s instructions and the goal of the project, which is to get into groups of 3-4 and research about cereal nutritional facts, create a graph or chart to help guide the group’s media presentation at the end of the project.

Prepare Environment:

​Groups will gather their desks together for in-group discussion and group researching. Laptops will be given after in-group discussion (or are free to use their personal laptops). Group members are required to know each other's contact information to work outside of class as well.

Group Discussion:

Students will then be placed in groups of 5 in which they will have group discussions about breakfast cereals they eat for breakfast (or have eaten in the past) and pick at least 2 cereals to compare and contrast with and to also inform the nutritional facts of those cereals.

Research & Analyze

​Students will research the nutritional facts of their chosen cereals and any extra information to will be useful to the topic and analyze their researched information.

Media Presentation by students

​Students will present their findings to the rest of the class and inform them of their assigned cereals.

This video will introduce the lesson and project and bring awareness to the goal.

Students will use google docs to compile and organize all their research for their chart and media presentation.

In the next class meeting, Students will then use Ease.ly to create a chart or graph that will help compare and contrast side by side the cereals and their sugar, salt and fat content.
